Welcome to the West Michigan Chapter of IFMA

Founded in 1986, West Michigan was one of the first chapters of the International Facility Management Association. Since that time, our membership has expanded to roughly 120 members with experts in Health Care landscape services, banks, and Insurance companies to name a few.

The chapter meets the third Wednesday of the month at 3:30 with each meeting held at a different location throughout West Michigan. Please take a look at the calendar for our upcoming events. In the past, the chapter has offered opportunities for professional growth and education including professional speakers, tours and networking opportunities.

We hope to see you at our next meeting!

In Memorium

Bradley McAvoy, age 52, of Grand Rapids, Michigan went to home to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on June 10, 2015 after a fearless battle with cancer. He was the youngest son of James (deceased) and Roberta McAvoy of Highland, Indiana. His surviving siblings are Janet Penner, James (Buck) McAvoy, and David McAvoy. Although raised on the outskirts of Chicago, Brad was a staunch Green Bay Packers fan. He married Kerry Kerr over 31 years ago and fathered three boys, Cameron, Devon, and Kellin. He loved snorkeling with his boys in Lake Huron, regaling them with stories of his childhood antics, and beating them at the annual family Rummy card game tournament.

Brad practiced servanthood leadership style. For years he volunteered as a small group leader for his local church’s children and student ministries, and strongly believed in supporting Christian missions. He also practiced this style of leadership as a member of his community and professionally. He served on the Courtland Township Planning Committee for over 13 years and was a volunteer board member of the West Michigan Chapter of the International Facility Management Association. As the Director of Engineering Services at Owen-Ames-Kimball Co., he believed in giving every subcontractor and owner his very best. This year he was recognized as the Engineer of the Year by the Western Chapter of Michigan Society of Professional Engineers (MSPE) and awarded the prestigious MSPE Steinman Award for his outstanding contributions to the field of engineering, faithful service to his community and to the engineering profession.

Instead of a traditional memorial service, it was Brad’s wish to have a celebration service which is to be held at the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park between 5 and 7 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2015. Please come and join Brad's family, friends, and colleagues as we share our favorite memories of Brad, enjoy food and drink, and listen to live the music of Cameron Blake, a friend and favorite local musician. It was also Brad’s desire to support his children’s college educations. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in honor of Brad to the Brad McAvoy Memorial Fund at Fifth Third Bank to support his youngest son, Kellin McAvoy’s college tuition.
